Tiger Woods fails to live up to expectations
AKRON, Ohio: After ruling the world of golf for 269 consecutive weeks, the US golfer, Tiger Woods, produced the worst-ever 54-hole total of his PGA Tour career as he made an early exit from the Firestone layout at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational here on Saturday.
With this exit, the World No. 1 rank of Tiger Woods has been left in peril as he registered two birdies, five bogeys and a double-bogey at the par-four eighth, giving the left-hander golfer, Phil Mickelson a great chance to grab his top spot.
A grim-looking Tiger Woods suggested media persons to talk to the leaders after the day full of misery for “Former” No. 1 golfer in the world.
After turning professional in 1996, this was Tiger Wood’s career-worst performance in the US circuit after playing 54 holes.
With a mood to avoid media, Tiger Woods told reporters, “I drove it terrible, hit my irons terrible, didn’t putt well and it added up to a lot”.
If Phil does win the invitational then this would be only the third time since 1999 that Tiger Woods lost hold of his number one position. In 1999, Woods’s fellow American David Duval grabbed the top spot while in 2004 Vijay Singh of Fiji got hold of the PGA No. 1.
