AUGUSTA: Great players perform when the chips are down and the same happened with the world’s best golfer ever Thursday when the American broke 70 in the opening round of the US Masters.

This is the first time for Tiger Woods in 16 trips to Augusta that he had broken 70 in the opening round, who finished with a pair of personal Masters firsts, including a four-under 68.

It was exactly what the doctor would have ordered for a disgraced American golfer, who admitted to cheating his wife some months back, but fans were there at the park to cheer their hero, and Tiger roared.

After a self-exile of 144 days, Tiger Woods’s first round score also included two eagles, which is his another personal feat at Augusta, helping him to finish just two strokes behind the overall leader Fred Couples.
