Tiger Woods target of his own brilliance
SHANGHAI: The first round of WGC-HSBC Champions kicked off and witnessed the new world golf champion Lee Westwood defend his championship against the group of former champions and highly experienced players like him.
The British Wood, who toppled the American Woods from the number one place after a huge 281-week reign, made a 66 in the first round and gave a solid reason for Tiger Woods to think that he lost his number one spot because of his own mistakes and lack in brilliance.
Lee started the game amid tough pain and injury in his calf and at the end of the first round sits just one shot behind Italian Francesco Molinari on the Leader board.
The game is not only important for the two Woods but is also of utmost significance for Martin Kaymer and Phil Mickelson since any one of these 4 who wins the championship will get the world number one spot as these 4 golfers occupy the top most positions in the rankings.
Commenting after the end of the 1st round that he played as the world number one Lee explained the scenario and said that the rankings clearly depict that how much tough the competition has become in the game of golf adding that nobody can be now a world number one for long.
When asked about Tiger’s current number 2 spot and the reason why he lost his 281-wekk kept precious number 1 place Lee said, that the reason behind his decline is he himself, tiger is the reason behind his decline as he didn’t play well this year along that he also allowed other to elevate and pass thru him adding that he is a victim of his own brilliance we have all worked hard and now have closed the gap among us.
The former number one Woods shot a solid 68 and now sits three shots behind Molinari in a tie for sixth, a stroke ahead of American compatriot and defending champion Mickelson and four clear of Germany’s Kaymer.
Playing the game after such a long time as world number 2 Tiger commented that the shots that I played in the 1st round made me feel good adding that he hits lot of good balls.
