Webber ends fastest in slippery South Korea

YEONGAM: The South Korea’s new circuit saw the world’s best driver speeding away with Championship leader Mark Webber finishing fastest in the practice timesheets at a slippery track here on Friday.

The Australian Webber recorded the fastest lap of one minute 37.942 seconds in the afternoon session, edging past the other two Formula One title rivals.

Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who holds second position in the championship, finished second in South Korea practice, while Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull finished along with him on the same note on a dusty patch.

Lewis Hamilton was not far behind as he grabbed the third position with a best lap of one minute 40.887 seconds.

As some of the drivers raised their eyebrows on the quality of the latest circuit, a decent turnout was present there to welcome the world’s best drivers. Among fans were school-going-kids who for the first time experienced the taste of race and agility with control.

However, Mercedes Chief Strategist, James Vowles, kept no excuses while talking about the South Korea track. He told the BBC that his team was treating the track like a “Living Entity”.

“Every time the drivers go out the track will feel different. The pit lane is very dirty and we are a little bit concerned. In eight years of doing this, it is the worst I have seen,” he added.
