The Russian seventh seed, who finished runner-up in the Wimbledon faced no problem winning the opening set as World No 94 Lisicki failed to gain momentum.

However, the German tennis player hit back in the second set to stretch it to tiebreak but couldn’t get the lady luck smiling on her as she lost the second set by a close margin of 7-6.

For Lisicki, it was a good outing after a six-month layoff when she suffered an ankle injury in March this year. It was her fourth match since then.
